The Velorbis
Victoria & Churchill Gentleman’s bicycles are traditional vintage
bicycles which can be typically used as part of your everyday life, they
have been designed to be ultra convenient, durable and reliable.
Features
include.
Sturmey Archer Enclosed Hub Gears. Enclosing the
gears protects the machinery from the weather, hence they involve much
lower maintenance than the derailleur systems found on most bikes.
Another advantage of internal gears is that they are very simple on the
outside and come with a chain guard. This is a much cleaner option
allowing you to ride in any clothing you choose rather than having to
wear specialist cycle gear.
Upright comfort. Traditionally, classic
bicycles are designed to give an upright and relaxed riding posture –
widely referred to as sit-up-and-beg style. This gives a high vantage
point from which to view the traffic, as well as making it easy to look
behind you and soak in all of the sights and sounds of the village, town
or city. If you want comfort, practicality and your riding style is more
of the leisurely variety then upright comfort is for you.
Fully equipped. Both the
Victoria classic and Churchill gentleman’s bicycle is fully equipped and comes
with mudguards, skirt guard (Victoria), chain guard, enclosed hub
driven lights, a double stand, bell and a rack as standard. The bicycles
can be easily and seamlessly integrated into your everyday routine,
whether you use it for commuting, shopping or simply getting around on.
Both bicycles come equipped with a range of BROOKS®
leather components.
Lightweight. With all of
their standard features, traditional classic bicycles tend to be heavier
than mountain bikes, etc. The Victoria
bicycles are equipped with 26” wheels that are smaller and better
proportioned than the normal 28” classic wheel size, often seen on the
continental, Dutch style bicycles. The Churchill Gentleman’s models are
fitted with 700c wheels. We have also equipped all of our bicycles with
the highest quality Chromoly steel, rather than the traditional Hi-ten
steel frames you find on other steel cycles today. These initiatives
therefore reduce the weight of the ladies bicycles to only 18 kg and
gents bicycle to only 19 kg and make them a perfect fit for navigating
through traffic, lifting on and off trains or down steps, etc.

A truly robust bicycle; the Churchill
Balloon is ideal for whenever a simple and hard wearing bicycle is
needed. The rims are built by the famous Dutch company Van Schothorst and
are the highest quality on the market. The spokes have received extra
reinforcements to make the bicycles compatible with heavy loads. Luxury
components are also included on this bicycle as with the Churchill
Classic model, including a range of BROOKS® leather components to make
the ride as elegant and comfortable as possible. Our Churchill Balloon is
hand built in Germany
and is regarded as the best on the market
for this category of bicycle.

The brand new
SCRAP DELUXE bicycle from VELORBIS will certainly turn a few heads,
particularly with its blond ‘Fat Frank’ balloon tyres from Schwalbe. The
unique distressed finish is combined with luxurious Brooks® leather
handles and Brooks® leather saddle to ensure the perfect ride.
VELORBIS Short-John Delivery Bike.
The VELORBIS® Short John work bicycle is
a special edition that is equipped with optional BROOKS® leather saddle
and BROOKS® leather grips. Hand built in Sweden to the highest quality
criteria; the VELORBIS® Short John special edition bicycle is great for
promotion of businesses, delivery
services for sandwich shops and deli’s
or for those occasions when only a really heavy-duty bicycle is
required. Short John comes with a dynamo light and Sram spectro drum
brakes.
VELORBIS Long-John Delivery bike.
A hand-made
transport beauty that can carry up to 100 kg loads, yet still with
excellent riding capabilities! This is the perfect inner-city delivery
bicycle. The VELORBIS Long John bicycle is a transport bike with an
extraordinary long-wheel base that can carry a huge load, but can still
squeeze through traffic with ease. In order to carry considerably more
loads on a 2-wheeler bicycle, the design and ergonomics require a
long-wheel base structure where the front wheel is steered via a linkage.
Bicycles such as the VELORBIS Long John have the carrier extremely low,
making them very stable with large loads.
Cycle trailers can provide a good solution to the problem of quickly
adapting a bicycle to be capable of carrying extra loads. However, they
do suffer from disadvantages, such as one wheeled trailers are scarcely
wider than the towing bicycle, but are restricted to carrying loads of
only up to about 30 kg’s. Two wheeled trailers can carry higher payloads,
but can clip kerbs and overturn when cornering, restricted access to some
cycle paths and gaps through congested traffic are not easy to keep under
observation when in motion
These disadvantages might be overcome by
fitting the load carrying extension to the front, not the rear of a
bicycle. The traditional delivery bike has the basket in front. Our
Swedish Long John, originally marketed around 1938, takes this to an
extreme and has a stated load carrying capacity of 100 Kg. It can carry
bags of cement weighing this much without experiencing any great impact
on the handling of the bike. Going up hill is of course much harder work,
but no different to towing a heavily laden trailer. The basket on the
Long John protrudes only a small amount beyond the pedals and so causes
little restriction on the gaps through which the bike can pass.
The
Long John is a great child carrier too. Note that as a child carrier, the
child or children can be observed by their custodian and they get a clear
view of what is going on around them. Perhaps they are also more visible
to motor traffic than they would be in a trailer.
